An honest look at what solar and battery storage do and don't do for a typical home.

People ask us is solar worth it almost every week. The honest answer: for most homes, yes — but the size of the win depends on your roof, your usage and whether you add a battery.

What solar does well

It cuts the electricity you buy during daylight. If you're home in the day, or run appliances on timers, you'll use more of what you generate — which is where the savings really come from.

Where a battery helps

A battery stores the daytime surplus for the evening, when most households use the most power. It lifts the share of your own solar you actually use, and lets you buy cheap off-peak electricity to use later.

An honest word on payback

  • A well-sized system typically pays back over several years, then runs largely for free.
  • Oversizing for a small, daytime-empty home rarely makes sense.
  • Good design — panel placement, inverter sizing, export setup — matters more than headline panel count.

We'd rather quote you the right-sized system than the biggest one.
